James Stewart: Recent Works

October 20 - November 10, 2022

COVID-19 was a time of study and process, both for Gallery 71 as well as James Stewart. We were honored for our first show since the pandemic to be Stewart’s works. During a time when our friends were safest at a distance, Stewart was fantasizing about bringing his all together. The paintings in this show are mostly of imagined scenes, photographs of gatherings he had spliced together to create conversations that never occurred, or have yet to occur. Stewart studied French Master Georges de La Tour’s paintings to capture interactions. De La Tour had a talent for having his subjects tell a narrative through their gesturing and gaze. In this exhibit, Stewart features some of his de La Tour craft studies. They are both a success in capturing life in stills as well as Stewart’s unmatched skill for lighting.

There was much to celebrate at the opening. James Stewart was present as well as five other artists carried here at Gallery 71. The event was somewhat of a reunion, apropo to the theme of the evening.

Steve Dreyer Solo Exhibition

October 5 - October 30, 2021

We were pleased to exhibit local artist Steve Dreyer’s stunning photographs at Gallery 71. Steve beautifully captures the magic of New York in black-and-white prints focused on landscapes, cityscapes, travel, and abstract art photography. We aspire to display works of art that depict New York City, with its wonderful buildings, historic landmarks, and beautiful parks. Steve's photographs do just that.

Dreyer was present with wife Elaine for his first solo show. The exhibit was a success that heralded NYC lovers of all walks of life. Dreyer’s book New York Light & Shadow was available at the event with the artist signing copies for collectors. Truly one for the books!

James Stewart

We were pleased to host James' exhibit titled: Café Berlin. In these newest pieces, James depicts a liberal Berlin ran by the Weimar Republic. In these varied mediums pieces (oil, gouache and pencil), the images truly come to life in park scenes and cafes lit masterfully by James. The show was a great success, many of the pieces having sold, but not to worry, there are still pieces on exhibit as well as some available for purchase.

LYNN SHALER

Lynn Shaler is a favorite at Gallery 71 and our collectors of fine art. At Lynn's Winter 2017 show, we debuted some fantastic pieces while revisiting some of her first impeccable creations. The event was filled with lively conversations as old friends reunited and new friends had the chance to meet the artist and join the Gallery 71 family. If you missed it, don't fret, Lynn Shaler is one of our most popular artists and we regularly exhibit her work.
