James Stewart lives in Pennsylvania and has for many years. His studied art at the Barnstone Acadmey, where Master Teacher Myron Barnstone stressed to his art students that being "creative" was not enough - they also needed to learn the highly structured, geometric design system known as The Golden Section or Golden Ratio. Stewart also studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, Philadelphia, PA.
His work has been exhibited in both group and solo shows in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, Delaware, and in New York, at Gallery 71, most recently in the spring of 2019.
Stewart was awarded a Ballinglen Ireland Fellowship 2009 and a Guggenheim Fellowship for painting 2007.
