Robert Valdes

Robert Valdes was born in the Bronx in 1942. He studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts, and Parsons School of Design. He is widely exhibited and collected across the United States.   His work has been shown in numerous group and solo shows.  He is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Grant as well as many artist residencies. Edward Hopper was an early influence on his painting, as was Pissaro and other impressionists.  In a 1997 Art New England article, Miles Unger wrote that "Valdes treats the simple objects he paints with the reverence due holy relics."  The result are landscapes and objects more reminiscent of classical painting than anything contemporary.
