ALFRED GONZÁLEZ: “BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE OF NEW YORK: A Photographic Experience”
A NEW EXHIBIT AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN CULTURAL CENTER
The South African Cultural Center/South African Consulate General, is currently hosting an exhibition of Alfred González’s photographs entitled, “Beautiful People of New York: A Photographic Experience”.
For the past three years Alfred has been photographing people on the streets of New York and in its public parks with his medium format film camera. He has collected approximately 250 portraits in black and white during this time. Most of the photographs were taken while walking or biking through the city and during his bike ride to and from his home in New Jersey to his art gallery on the upper east side.
Alfred would stop his bike during these travels whenever he saw someone interesting to photograph. Alfred would start up a conversation about the project. Most people would agree to let him take their portrait. This has been a real joy and labor of love, and he wants to share these experiences and his photographs with as many people as possible. The body of work will be released for the first time at this exhibit, approximately 50 images in all.
