For the month of May 2025, Gallery 71 is excited to announce the inaugural solo exhibition of Louisiana based painter Kathryn Keller. The inaugural exhibition also celebrates Keller's official representation by Gallery 71 as a part of their Artist Roster. The exhibition titled "Capturing What is Ever Changing" concentrates on three different distinct bodies of Keller's work. The first, are Keller’s landscapes which capture rural central Louisiana-- specifically, Alexandria-- where Keller resides for most of the year. The second are a series of oil on canvas and oil on paper works, depicting the magical seascapes and buildings of Nova Scotia and the rocky beautiful coast of Maine. Keller traveled to Nova Scotia in the summer of 2019 and to Maine in the summer of 2023.
The last series featured in the exhibition, are a series of watercolors that showcase the ever-changing cityscapes of New York City. Many of the places depicted in these urban watercolor cityscapes illustrate lesser-known landmarks and scenes in New York City.
The common thread connecting Keller's work, whether it’s depicting rural Louisiana, the seascapes of Nova Scotia, the rocky coast of Maine, or the urban scenes of New York City, is that life is ever changing and ephemeral. If we are lucky, we can remember those ephemeral moments in time, in a world that is ever changing.
